Beginning and ending at Salem Lake trailhead, off Reynolds Park Road in Winston-Salem, NC. The average temperature in early January is a high of 49 and a low of 29.

START TIME

8:00 am, Rain, snow, or shine. Cutoff time is 8 hours.

REGISTRATION AND FEES

25K individual, 50K individual, and 50K relay (four runners per team, one leg/7.5 miles per runner).
 

T-Shirts guaranteed for all entrants that register by 12/15.

For 50k individual, $35 through December 15, $55 through December 31.

For 25k individual, $30 through December 15, $40 through December 31.

For 50k relay, $120 per team through December 15, $145 through December 31.

No registration after December 31, no race day registration. No refunds or comps.

For all registrations, we pay the active.com fee, and active.com is the only way to register.  No mail-in registrations.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The 50K course is a mostly flat and scenic course beginning and ending at Salem Lake, 6 plus miles on asphalt Greenway, 25 miles of hard packed dirt around Salem Lake. It is a double out and back. The start, finish and halfway are at the Salem Lake gravel parking lot. There are restroom facilities at start/midway/finish, and the 1/4 and 3/4 turnaround. There are aid stations at the start/midway/finish, Linville Road, and near the dam which provide water, sports drinks, and snacks roughly every 3 1/2 miles.

The 25K course is the same as the 50K course, but one out-and-back.

 

AWARDS

T-Shirts for all entrants, guaranteed only if registered by 12/15. Medallions for all individual and relay finishers.

Awards for:

50K - top ten male and female.

25K - top five male and female.

Relay - top overall, masters (40+), and grandmasters (50+) for male team, female team, mixed team. Nine total team awards.

Mixed team must have either 2 or 3 females. Each relay team must have exactly four runners. No one can run team and individual races. For masters and grandmasters teams, all team members must meet age requirement.

HOW TO REACH SALEM LAKE

From Business I-40 at Winston-Salem., exit onto Highway 52 south. Take the first exit (Stadium Drive), turn left (uphill) to traffic light at Martin Luther King Blvd. Turn right onto Martin Luther King Blvd., then left onto Reynolda Park Road. Salem Lake Road is approximately 1 1/2 miles on left.

TWIN CITY TRACK CLUB, INC.

Race directed by Twin City Track Club, chip-timed by Ultimate Race Management with split times every 7.5 miles.

FOR SAFETY REASONS

No wheelchairs, headphones, baby joggers or strollers, roller blades/skates, or dogs are allowed in this event. Do not enter unless you are medically able and properly trained to complete a trail ultramarathon.

LOCAL ACCOMMODATIONS

The following hotels are in downtown Winston-Salem, and are reasonably convenient to the race site. Currently, there is no shuttle service from the hotels to the race, but sharing rides is encouraged, since parking at the race site is limited. There is no camping at Salem Lake and no campgrounds are nearby, there is a list of campgrounds available at hikercentral.com. There are no shower facilities at Salem Lake. We recommend contacting the YMCA of Northwest NC for a day pass.
